A much awaited Google Caffeine was out in June last year, which provides 50 percent fresher results for web searches. Whether it is a news story, a blog or a forum post, you can now find links to relevant content much sooner after it is published than was possible ever before. Google claims it as the largest collection of web content they ever offered.
The birth of Caffeine is believed to keep up with the evolution of the web and to meet rising user expectations and make real time searches. Caffeine means that new pages will be shown much quicker on Google’s result pages and it takes up nearly 100 million gigabytes of storage in one database and adds new information at a rate of hundreds of thousands of gigabytes per day. After Caffeine was introduced, several changes and enhancements also occur in the past few months.
Search Engine Marketing Experts were expected Caffeine since December 2009 and have their plans already built up to change SEO for their websites. Websites may require additional changes and review to be easily indexed on top of the search result pages and minimize the Caffeine impact. For a consistent position on top of the SERP, you should constantly update your website content and link to quality pages in terms of both, inbound and outbound links. The highest rated links are created organically through viral marketing and social media platforms, articles and press releases.

The California Legislature in the US is considering a bill that would allow the state to use digital license plates for vehicles. This digital plate will switch to advertisements when vehicle is stopped for more than four seconds while the number would remain visible at all times in some section of the screen. Though it is quite creative and innovative in nature but the move is intended as a moneymaker for a state facing $19 billion budget deficit.
The electronic plates would look like standard plates when the car is in motion, showing the registration number. But when a car will stop for more than four seconds, whether stuck in a jam or at a red light, advertisements would be displayed to people sitting in the vehicles behind. Though the basic purpose is to show ads and generate additional revenues but in emergencies, the plates could also be used to display public service announcements like missing children alerts, or traffic information.
The bill’s author, Democratic Senator Curren Price of Los Angeles, said “California would be the first state to implement such technology if the state Department of Motor Vehicles ultimately recommends the widespread use of the plates and other states are also exploring something similar”. A company named ‘Smart Plate’ in San Francisco is developing the plates and envisions them not just as a new outlet for advertisers, but also for drivers.

It is all Entertainment; all major search engines realized that more than 10% of all Internet search queries are related to entertainment. So, why not create a separate channel for entertainment and music lovers. In June, Microsoft launched a separate vertical for entertainment search queries and integrated in Bing and promoted results for Zune. Google is also working on something similar and planning to build a music download service of its own.
Both Google and Bing provide links to stream full songs found in search results, but Bing provides additional details on lyrics and buy links. After launching this service, Google will integrate this service to its search engine and music searches on Google will link to full song streams provided by MySpace Music, as well as Twitter updates. This search giant still leads the pack with around 70% of market share for searches in US but when it comes to music, it is none other than Apple, which commands 70% of digital music download sales in the United States. This is the reason why both Microsoft and Google are trying to compete with Apple through their mobile platforms.
SED, which stands for ‘Surface-conduction Electron-emitter Display’ could be an upcoming technology in the television industry. SED televisions are much awaited since many years and first prototype was expected to introduce in 2004 by Toshiba, who was working on SED since more than 10 years. SED seems to be inherited from TFT and CRT monitors. It combines the thinness of the first and the qualities of the second and improves them.
It draws less power and the best feature is that it does not require backlights, as LCDs do. Like Cathode Ray Tube TVs, SED technology is based on the collision of electrons and phosphoric monitor to emit light. Still, unlike CRTs, there is not a single gun for the monitor, but a mini electron gun behind each sub-pixel, 1920 x 1080 x 3 = 6.2 million of guns and each sub-pixel is covered with phosphorus. Electrons emitted by transmitter hit the panel phosphor and produces light.
Major feature of SED television is their viewing angle, which is complete 180° with the response time of less than 1 millisecond and contrast ratio of 100,000:1. Canon demonstrated the prototype of SED TVs jointly with Toshiba Corp in 1999 and to emphasize the advantages, it organized a test room with the SED placed between plasma and a LCD TV and the result for SED was nothing comparable to any of the other technological display. In May 2010, Canon announced it planned to keep working on the technology for business uses, such as medical displays, but said the technology was not profitable in TVs as LCD and plasma had fallen too quickly in price and initial production cost is too high while the selling rate is not at all affordable. Now, let us see when SED display will hit the market at least for business users.
Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple was named “Smartest CEO in Tech” by Fortune Magazine, which published a list of ‘50 smartest people in tech’. The magazine said, “He is a visionary, a micromanager and a showman who creates such anticipation around new products that their releases are veritable holidays.” The survey drew upon 100 advisers and experts for nominations in ten different categories, who were then evaluated based on their perceived intelligence as well as their impact over recent time frames.
This is not the first accolade for Jobs’ performance at Apple. Earlier, Barron’s described the company’s co-founder as ‘the world’s most valuable CEO’ in naming Jobs to a list of the 30 most respected CEOs. In addition, other prominent persons on the list were Google’s Sergey Brin and Larry Page, Jack Dorsey of Twitter, Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Netscape’s Marc Andreessen. Matching Jobs’ performance, Apple’s Jony Ive also claimed the top spot in the “smartest designer” category.
