Tim Cook, the Apple CEO

Timothy D. Cook, famous by the name ‘Tim Cook’, the current CEO of Apple Inc., was born on November 1, 1960 and joined Apple in March 1998. Steve Jobs, the creator and soul of Apple, resigned from the post of CEO on August 24, 2011 and recommended Tim Cook’s name to replace his role. Tim CookTim Cook was already serving as a COO (Chief Operating Officer) and was responsible for the company’s worldwide sales and operations. Before joining Apple, Tim was serving as the Vice President with Compaq.

Tim Cook is an industrial engineer who earned his MBA degree from Duke University in 1988. He also headed Apple’s Macintosh division and played a key role in ensuring the development and innovation to an increasingly demanding marketplace. Now, Tim Cook is expected to unveil the much awaited iPhone 5 in October this year. Though, the news is still not confirmed and it is expected that there could be other devices (new iPod or iPad 3) as well along with iPhone 5.

Steve Jobs – The Smartest CEO

Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple was named “Smartest CEO in Tech” by Fortune Magazine, which published a list of ‘50 smartest people in tech’. The magazine said, “He is a visionary, a micromanager and a showman who creates such anticipation around new products that their releases are veritable holidays.” The survey drew upon 100 advisers and experts for nominations in ten different categories, who were then evaluated based on their perceived intelligence as well as their impact over recent time frames.

This is not the first accolade for Jobs’ performance at Apple. Earlier, Barron’s described the company’s co-founder as ‘the world’s most valuable CEO’ in naming Jobs to a list of the 30 most respected CEOs. In addition, other prominent persons on the list were Google’s Sergey Brin and Larry Page, Jack Dorsey of Twitter, Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Netscape’s Marc Andreessen. Matching Jobs’ performance, Apple’s Jony Ive also claimed the top spot in the “smartest designer” category.
