Microsoft shows off new Windows Phone-7 and Windows powered tablet computers

Windows lovers have a reason to cheer up. Now, Microsoft has launched new operating system for smartphones named as ‘Windows Phone 7′. On 29th July 2010, Microsoft showed off Windows-powered tablet computers and smartphones designed to beat back advances by Apple Inc and Google Inc. The new platform is aimed at producing phones designed for users who are heavily into social networking and instant messaging.

Microsoft showed off the new phones running Windows Phone 7, made by handset makers Samsung Electronics and LG. Windows Phone 7The devices will incorporate large touch screens, integrated with Zune music player, e-mail programs and link up with content from Xbox Live, Facebook, and other networks. Microsoft is planning to release its first major update for Windows Phone 7 known as Mango or Windows Phone 7.5, which will bring more than 500 new features.

Microsoft’s new mobile OS is the software giant’s effort to regain its edge in the mobile space. With the launch of Apple’s iPhone and Google’s Android, Windows based Mobiles lost nearly a third of its smartphone market share. With the new smartphone OS, their challenge now is to execute, and begin to expand their market share as these devices come to market. All Windows mobile phones are expected to be designed to have three common hardware buttons: Start, Search and Back buttons along with two buttons for Camera and Power. So, manufacturers must include these five permanent buttons on the phone. The success of WP7 will depend largely on how Microsoft provides development tools to OEMs and ISVs. Windows Phone 7 has many interactive features that are supposed to be in a mobile phone. So, you may forget everything you knew about traditional Windows Mobile, it will be a new smartphone OS on the desk in the coming months.
